CodeClan, Scotland’s digital skills academy, has just announced a new funding opportunity available for Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire applicants who wish to train in software development.
Fully-funded places are now available for CodeClan’s upcoming remote course in Software Development – North East, starting in January 2022.
The 12-week career changers’ course will provide industry-led training for a new generation of software and web developers.
The funded training will help to create high-value jobs in the North East and ensure businesses have access to skilled people to help innovate and improve their competitiveness, with software development skills such as JavaScript, Python and SQL. Students will have the opportunity to gain a Professional Development Award in Software Development, SQA level 8.
Speaking about the course, Ceri Shaw, Chief Delivery Officer at CodeClan, said: “Digital industries offer well-paid careers with long-term security. However, gaining those skills through traditional routes can be time-consuming and costly and we understand that. This is an important step closer to making digital skills available to everyone and increasing access to digital careers.”

The North East Economic Recovery and Skills Fund, provided by the Scottish Government, is available for Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire local authority applicants who are over 25 years old and face financial barriers that prevent them from accessing existing upskilling and retraining opportunities for a future career in digital technologies.
“With the speed of digital transformation in our economy only increasing, it’s vital that more people have the opportunity to learn the skills they need to move into these new exciting roles,” said Allison Carrington, Regional Skills Planning Lead at Skills Development Scotland (SDS).
She added: “Not only will this help people across the region as they deal with a rapidly changing jobs market, but it will help businesses across all sectors who are increasingly in need of digital skills for growth and innovation.”
The Software Development – North East course is 12 weeks long and includes CodeClan’s careers support service, in which students, through a series of classes and workshops, get the knowledge and confidence to pitch new skills to employers, whether on their CV, LinkedIn, portfolio, job applications or in interviews.
